FAQ
Hello and welcome to Artkitectures!
Below you will find information about my work and the process for ordering your own custom piece. If you don't see your question here, please head over to the Contact Page and send me a message there.
1. What is Artkitectures?
Artkitectures is a collection of architectural and landscape portraits created by myself, Katie Wilson. I create custom work as well as print work, highlighting notable places, landmarks, and businesses.
2. Are you available for commissions? How do I get a quote?
Yes! In fact, most of my work is privately commissioned. If you are interested in your own piece, send me a message via the Contact Page to receive a no obligation quote. In your message, please include the address, size you would like to order, and attach a photo. You can also send an e-mail to hello@artkitectures.com.
3. Are your drawings digital or hand drawn?
My pieces are 100% hand drawn. I complete a pencil sketch which then gets traced onto a thin, slick marker paper. The color is then filled in using a blend of alcohol based markers and colored pencils. Completed pieces then receive a high resolution scan and are printed on a thick card stock paper.
4. How much is a drawing?
My prices vary based on the size you would like to order, the level of detail, and what perspective the piece is drawn from. For reference, an 8"x10" image of a single family home framed and matted in an 11"x14" frame typically ranges from $350.00-$425.00 USD. To begin a piece I request a 50% non-refundable deposit with the remaining balance due at delivery.
5. What sizes can I order my piece in?
My most popular size ordered is an 8"x10" print matted in an 11"x14" frame. I do not create pieces smaller than an 8"x10" unless they are extremely simple as the level of detail becomes illegible at smaller sizes. You can also order an 11"x14" print or a 16"x20" print. If you would like a unique or specific size, please let me know in your message.
6. Can you work from a picture?
Drawings can be completed from pictures only but please note the following: a) picture must show the whole subject, b) picture must show the angle you wish to have the subject drawn from, and c) picture must be as level as possible. It often helps to take a step ladder across the street to stand on and take the photo. I can only draw what I can see and having never been to these locations, I rely on you to be my eyes! Detail shots are also helpful.
7. Can you take photos for me?
If you are local to Ventura County I can be available to take the appropriate pictures for a fee. Fee is based on your location and proximity to downtown Ventura, CA.
8. How long will it take?
Lead times vary based on how many projects I currently have, but typically they range from 3-4 weeks. A completion date will be provided to you with your quote. Rush delivery is available for a fee. If you are interested, please let me know the time frame you are looking for in your message and I will include the amount in your quote.
9. Can I make changes?
Once I have received your deposit I will begin work on a sketch of your home. When it is completed, I will email you a photo of the sketch and ask if you would like any changes made. Due to the hand drawn nature of my work, changes can not be made after this step as I begin working with ink. If you would like to make a change after I have received your approval and begun working with ink, one can be made for a fee which will be assessed based on the requested change.
10. Can I order additional copies or have my commissioned piece put onto a magnet/mug/shirt/cards/etc.?
Additional prints can be made available to you at the time of purchase for an additional fee. If you would like to make other items out of your image, a digital copy MUST be purchased. Let me know that you would like one when you request your quote and I will include it. Please not that even with the purchase of a digital copy, it is never okay to alter my original art or to produce it for resale.
11. Am I purchasing the original?
A commissioned piece includes the purchase of a high resolution print in the size of your choosing with hand signature and optional framing and matting. Please note that I do not deliver originals as the paper I work with is tissue thin and also often becomes dirty due to my hand sliding on the paper. Originals can be made available for a higher rate due to the higher level of care required to produce them.
12. Can I wholesale order your prints?
Absolutely! Just send me a message via my Contact Page. Please note a valid business license is required to receive wholesale pricing.
